Eating Healthy—Common Bad Eating Habits

Many bad eating habits have been studied by researchers and nutrition experts that are the usual causes for being overweight or unhealthy. One small choice in the grocery store can have a huge impact on your health. If you have already come up with a plan for eating healthy, then you might want to know these common bad habits that everyone should avoid. Read on.

  • When people hear the word ‘fats’, they automatically think of heart attacks, obesity, or not fitting in a size one. The first step in breaking this one common bad habit of not knowing the different kinds of fats is to study them and learn what they can do for your body. There are fats that are bad for your health and that you should avoid such as Trans fats and saturated fats. There are also fats that are actually good for your body such as polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. You can get good fats from nuts, avocados, soybeans, olive or canola oil, and fish. You do not even have to monitor the amount of good fats that you are eating as long as you are keeping track of your calorie intake. What you need to worry about is the kind of fat you’re eating.
  • When eating out, do not upsize your meals. Larger meals can save you money but they will also save those fats that you are trying to shed. If you have a companion, you can share the meal together. Eating healthy means eating the right amount of food, nothing more, nothing less. Another tip is to always check if the amount of food served on your plate can fit into your open palm. The amount of food that a person should eat is about the size of his or her palm. Men need larger amounts than women, and women need bigger servings than young children.
  • It is true that water has no calories, but not soda or other sweet drinks. Some people think that just because it is liquid, it is good for their body. What they do not realize is that these sugared drinks also have calories. Moreover, if you drink too much of these sweet beverages, your body will have less or no room for real nutritious foods. You can drink tea of any kinds. You can choose those that have no calories.
  • Eating healthy also requires you to know your hunger. Knowing your hunger can limit the amount of food that you are going to eat. Do not let yourself get really hungry before you decide to eat something. If it’s already time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you should eat your meals. Eating when you are very hungry will make you eat more and you will only realize that you are already full after eating your 30th spoonful, swallowing big gulps of drinks, and relaxing for a few minutes. The point is to eat slowly.
  • Do not rely too much on microwaves. Microwaveable foods are processed suing chemicals that will lower the amount of fiber, antioxidants, and other nutrients in your body.

Stay healthy, eat well,

Cheers,
